Multifrequency Instrument For Air-Coupled Ultrasonic Testing

 The SONDA 007CX AIRSCAN is an air-coupled ultrasonic flaw detector. The ambient air is used as the couplant. It drives very powerfull transducers with tonebursts (selectable at 50 kHz, 200 kHz, 400 kHz, and 1 MHz). The receiver includes a narrow band super low-noise and high-gain preamplifier.

400 kHz

Using 400 kHz AS 400 air-coupled focused transducers, a lateral resolution of about 1.5 mm (0.060") is achieved, as demonstrated by this C-scan with artificial defects

50kHz on Foam

50 kHz

With 50 kHz transducers it is possible to penetrate very attenuative materials, such as foam, foam sandwiches and honeycomb structures, and to obtain C-scan images.

One-sided Bubbler System

120 kHz / 200 kHz

New 120 kHz air-coupled transducers are used for  pultruded materials, yielding an effective compromise between resolution and penetration.

The SONDA 007CX can also be combined with contact methods, such as water squirters  (as shown in the picture in a pitch-catch configuration) and roller probes, to test parts which have very high attenuation.

CONFIGURATIONS

The SONDA-007CX can be used with all QMI scanning systems and can be retrofitted to most customers' systems.

Fine tuning for nominal 50 kHz, 200 kHz, 400 kHz and 1 MHz center frequencies.
Pulse repetition rate adjustable up to 500 Hz.
